£125.00

Antique c1720's Black Lacquered Papier-Mâché Snuff Box. Coloured Etching by Famous French Painter and Engraver Bernard Picart (1673 - 1733) Residing in Amsterdam in 1710.
Notice the Dutch-Japanese fashion influence in the illustration of Daniel Defoe's character Robinson Crusoe York Mariner,
(French edition of 1720).
"ROBINSON" is printed to the bottom of the very fineley coloured etching. Various cross-hatch details to the items of clothing, parasol, basket and scenery. NB. Photographs 1 and 2 are closest in colour to the original colours. Photograph 3 has been lightened to show the fine details.
The etching has is lacquered and is in very good condition with only minor dings to the edge, a few surface scratches and what looks like the initial I engraved to the bottom of the box. Inside the black lacquer has crackled commensurate to the age of the piece. May have also been used for Tobacco.  A very fine snuff box with a very interesting subject, and quite obviously appealing to many different types of collectors. (All reasonable offers considered).
